Cynthia Aoki
Cynthia completed her B.Sc. (Hons), majoring in Human Biology, at the University
of Toronto in 2003. She then completed her M.Sc. in Neuroscience at the
University of Toronto in 2005. Instead of joining the academic world of medical
sciences, she decided to pursue a career in law. She graduated from University
of Ottawa, Faculty of Law in 2008 and was called to the Bar in 2009. Cynthia
articled at a full-service Toronto law firm where she was exposed to various
areas of the law and later, joined Jones Harley LLP. Her primary area of
practice is civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance defence, including
all areas of personal injury law and coverage issues. During law school, Cynthia
was a teaching assistant for a first-year Contracts course, where she conducted
tutorials and lectures. She was also a research assistant in the Law and
Technology Program, where she investigated emerging technologies and privacy law
issues, in both Ottawa, Ontario and Washington D.C. Cynthia has been a FACL
member since February, 2009. She is excited to be part of a team that helps to
promote diversity within and beyond the legal community. During her spare time,
Cynthia enjoys playing tennis and squash. She also enjoys spending time with her
family and friends.
