FACL, ACCLO and PBLO INITIATIVE - VOLUNTEER CHINESE LAWYERS NEEDED

FACL and Association for Chinese Canadian Lawyers (ACCLO) are thrilled to announce their intention to partner with Pro Bono Law Ontario (PBLO) in hosting periodic summary advice clinics at PBLO’s court-based help centres known as Law Help Ontario (LHO). Each year, LHO serves thousands of low-income, self-represented litigants with civil, non-family matters in the Superior Court of Justice and Small Claims Court. We have learned from PBLO that, among its clients who speak English as a non-first language, Chinese speakers are the most common. We are eager to seize upon the opportunity to assist a number of self-represented litigants in our community who are obviousy struggling to navigate the civil justice system on their own.

At this time, we ask that you contact us if you are interested in participating as a volunteer lawyer. Interested lawyers should be prepared to spend one full day providing brief summary advice at an LHO centre either at 393 University Avenue (Superior Court) or 47 Sheppard Avenue East (Small Claims Court). Those interested in vounteering at the Superior Court centre should be full-time civil litigators.

Please indicate your interest in this project by emailing FACL VP Ian Hu at ihu@oatleyvigmond.com. Thank you for your support.
